State of Innocence

by Cat Williams

I am the first daughter,

and I will be the last.

I plunge into Venus,

in spite of Apollo,

and from my knees

worship the flower that blooms before me.

I leave my mark through teeth and tongue;

I kiss the petals softly.

I have taken this lamb from the altar,

and with my touch,

I stain it’s wool black.
